Organic wine starts in the vineyard.
By enhancing soil biodiversity and maintaining its fertility, the organic grapes can truly thrive. By keeping our estate free of harmful chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, and
chemical fertilisers, our certified organic land is not only better for the organic grapes today but also tomorrow. The only irrigation our grapes receive is what’s generously donated by the sky;
we don’t use any artesian water on our organic vines here.
During organic grape processing, we only add natural yeast to our organic ferments and use the lowest possible amounts of wine preservatives and additives. See the wine Additive List below for
the chemicals that we DO NOT use in our wine. Every certified organic wine is made with a truly organic approach and is fermented, matured, and bottled right here on our premises.
We love what we do and we’re confident you will taste the difference.
Organic wine starts in the vineyard but "vin ordinaire" starts with machine harvesting,
chemical control of weeds in the vineyard and pesticides sprayed on the vines leaves and grapes. If you think thats organic, go right ahead.
So, NO, all wine is not organic and certified organic wines are different to the girl down the road who calls her wine organic without any independent inspection or authority.
Certified organic means that we are inspected annually against a set criteria by AQIS and are able to export our wines across the world.
Though many wine preservatives and additives are legal and commonly used in Australian wines, we never use any of the following additives in our organic wines:
Organic Vegan wines are generally unfined and unfiltered, with no animal additives and, if filtered, are filtered using only sterile, cellulose filters or cross-flow filters. Be sure to check with the producer about filtering techniques as several mass-produced wineries use sterile filters rather than animal products.
Some wineries use bentonite clay besides the use of isinglass and other animal products in order to fine protein from white wines. Biodynamic wines can be made in a vegan way when they are unfined, but since the farming process uses animal bones for special compost mixtures, it negates this.
Vegan Organic Wine
If a wine is certified organic, it doesn’t guarantee it’s vegan. Please ask when visiting any cellar door or read the back label for information.
Harris Organic Wines are generally not available at retail stores, because our production is limited. Even though we send thousands of bottles to our interstate and oversea customers
we do not have a distributor in any states of Australia or other countries. All our mail order wines are shipped direct from the Perth organic winery.
However, there are three specialist retailers in Perth and Geraldton, Western Australia who do stock the very best of our certified organic wine extenive list.
They are:
